“At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that will say this chaplet; or when others say it for a dying person, the indulgence is the same. When this chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person, God’s anger is placated, unfathomable mercy envelops the soul, and the very depths of My tender mercy are moved for the sake of the sorrowful Passion of My Son. ”. “Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.“
So many fear this moment. One can see it all around in the world and if you honestly look inside, you can’t lie that some fear hasn’t come into your own heart to face this moment.
During a homily on The Feast of the Holy Trinity last week, Father said that death is the reward of a life now as it unites the soul fully and finally with the totality of the Most Holy Trinity.
When Adam sinned in the garden for eating from the fruit on the tree, death became the penalty of sin. But, when Jesus surrendered to the Father’s will in the garden and then died on the cross, He became the fruit that gives eternal life and death became the reward for those who held to His promises.
All souls should seek peace in the intercession of the Blessed Mother at that hour. She knows the truth of what lies on the other side of that moment and will intercede to bring the soul the joy due it in that moment.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is another great tool of peace in that moment. Jesus told St. Faustina, “Pray as much as you can for the dying. By your entreaties [that is, insistent prayers], obtain for them trust in My mercy, because they have most need of trust, and have it the least….Sooner would heaven and earth turn into nothingness than would My mercy not embrace a trusting soul.“ Divine Mercy in my soul # 1777
I have found and seen much joy in the Chaplet. I asked Jesus for the mercy of His promises for my dad who passed 28 years ago. That day I asked Jesus to take my Chaplet out of now and apply it to my dad all those years earlier. As I began to pray, the Lord graced me with this vision. I saw myself kneeling at the bed in my parent’s room as my dad came through the door. I prayed harder as tears began to flow. I wanted to jump up and hug him; I missed him so much. But, I felt a hand on my shoulder and heard a whisper in my ear, “Pray”. My dad laid down and closed his eyes. Minutes later, I saw him have his heart attack and die. I was devastated, my prayer was lost along with my dad. But, then, I saw the Blessed Mother at his side and St. Micheal steppes from behind me to her side. She reached down, grabbed the hands of my dad And lifted him from the bed. He stood up and looked her in the eyes. I saw tears on my dad’s face as a smile erupted and she embraced him. St. Michael embraces my dad next. They turned and stepped away, but, before they disappeared, St. Michael turned to me, gave me a smile and a wink. I knew in that moment that Jesus had answered my prayer. Suddenly, I was back in the present moment.
I’ve also seen the Chaplet bring peace to a brother in Christ. He reached out for prayers for his father who was nearing the hour of death. I called him and told him about Divine Mercy and the Chaplet. I told him how to find an app that would walk him through the prayer and the great trust affirmed in Jesus’ promises at this moment. The next day, he called me to tell me his dad had gone home but thanks to the Chaplet, he had great peace. At the hour his father breathed his last on earth, they were praying the Chaplet together. Instead of despair at this moment, he had a great peace knowing where his dad was now.
Praying the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy, which Our Lord encouraged St. Faustina to say, is also of tremendous help to these souls. Our Lord even went so far as to say to her: “My daughter, encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the Chaplet. When hardened sinners say it, I will fill their souls with peace and the hour of their death will be a happy one” Divine Mercy in my soul # 1541
Find the Chaplet in Divine Mercy in my soul # 476 or in the Divine Mercy app found in the App Store.
Pray it daily and trust.
Encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you (1541). Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death (687). When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the Merciful Savior (1541). Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy (687). I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (687).
Very moving and comforting!
