Prayer of Abandonment

There is no better way to begin a series on surrender and God’s Divine Will then with a prayer of Abandonment.

Here is a beautiful prayer of surrender and abandonment. I found this prayer ‘by accident’ several years ago while I was sitting in the ICU lounge. My daughter was laying in the ICU on a ventilator. She had just suffered a seizure several hours earlier and now the doctors were simply trying to stabilize her condition.

I sat waiting for the nurse to let us into the ICU so I could talk to the doctors and see my little girl when I came along this prayer for the first time. We all know there is no accident when God is involved so there is no doubt He gave this to me for that moment. It has become for me a daily prayer. I am working on making it a lifestyle (that part is harder).

Father,
I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands, without reserve,and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father. Amen
