“For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1;18
“And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” John 3:14-15
The power of the cross is the focus of our reflection and meditation this ‘Praise Monday’ as we move into this solemn Holy Week.
We look upon the cross in our churches, seeing the body of Christ hung in death upon it. So often do we see this imagery that the harshness of its message is lost upon us. We gloss over by familiarity the power of the cross. I wear a 3rd class relic of mercy around my neck in a crucifix, and am guilty of losing its meaning, allowing it to become just an object.
Then, I see the cross like on the image of this reflection and am reminded. I see the Lord hung above me upon the cross and gasp at what I’ve done to put Him there. Then, Jesus lifts His eyes, whispering, “look at Me, My son. See by this how much I love you? See I forgive you. Now tell everyone what I do for you. Spread the message of My Divine Mercy.”
Don’t lose sight of the cross. Praise it’s “foolishness”, lift your hands and eyes to His as He hangs there and be reminded in this horrible event, you are given reason to praise.
