“He that offers praise as a sacrifice glorifies me” Psalm 50:23
“I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.” Psalm 86:12
What better way to look at a Monday and start a week than by praising our God?
So many times a song brings strong imagery and memories to mind. Praise music makes the foot tap, raises the hands and lifts the soul. The sound and words just fill the heart with the Holy Spirit. Lifting our hands as we lift our voices in praise to God inspires us to overcome all our despair, fears and worldly concerns. Even for just 4-6 minutes, we are drawn closer to God.
This song fills my heart with joyous memories. One of the best men I know loves this song and would always insure it was the song leading into his talks on retreat. Watching his hands lift to praise God as dozens of men sing these words with all their heart – just that thought brings joyful tears to my eyes.
Singing is praying twice as St. Augustine said. Some songs just have a way of bringing praise to life on levels beyond just the notes and words. What praise songs inspires great memories of love in your mind? What song do you find your hands weightlessly lifting in praise?
“Shout to the Lord” is that song for me. When I hear this song, especially sung by Darlene Zschech finds my hands and voice raised of their own accord. It is hard to play this on my guitar when I want to lift my hands – haha. I pray this song and video inspire your to sing out to the glory of God.
“I sing for joy at the work of Your hands, forever I’ll love you forever I’ll stand!”
“I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!” Psalm 34:2-4
