What better way to look at a Monday and start a week than by praising our God?
Bear with me. This may not seem like a song of praise but be patient with me.
‘Scars in Heaven’ is the newest song by Casting Crowns. The tone and words may seem sad, the video can be difficult as well. But, this is a song of total hope.
This song makes me think of my dad. I write this in advance. It happens to be his birthday on the day I am writing this post.
I think of you, dad. I hold onto your last words to me, more cherished than any treasure – “I am proud of you, Ed. I love you”
These words are a salve to heal the pain I still feel to this day of your passing. I miss all your advice and the sound of your voice. Nothing can replace you.
Over every pain and sorrow though I hold the words our Savior said to me at your casket. I remember that September night as vividly as if it were happening right now. I had come half way around the world from Japan and knelt at 3 AM beside your coffin. Alone in the darkish room beside my hero.
It took 2 days to get home from when I heard the news. But, it was at this moment that my world collapsed and my heart shattered. The reality set in that I would never see you again nor hear your voice. I wouldn’t hear your words of advice. I was totally broken.
It was at that instant, seemingly from nowhere, that I heard the words come from my mouth, “I’ll see you again.” They seemed strange but peace washed over me. It was years later I realized those words were given me by our Savior. He whispered in my ear that night these words of consolation and hope, “Trust Me, My son, you’ll see him again.”
As I listen to this song and let the lyrics wash over my soul and still broken heart, the sense of hope comes back. The tears don’t stop but I know I will see you again soon, dad.
“I am the resurrection and the life;[a] he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” John 11:25
If you’ve lost someone dear, hold the promise of Jesus to your wounds and let His hope heal your pains. Praise Jesus, lifting up your voice in a song of trust. The scars our Savior bear are His proof and promise of life eternal. When I gaze upon the Crucifix, His promise rings loudly, “I will see you again.”
Miss you dad, can’t wait to see you again

“I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!” Psalm 34:2-4
