I know we did this song not too long ago but listening to it this morning, I was struck and had to share.
I’ve been focusing lately upon my three favorite saints and what they teach. St. Faustina, my patroness, St Therese of Lisieux and the Blessed Mother (Mother of all Saints).
So what struck me? And why?
Refiner’s fire
My heart’s one desire
Is to be holy
Set apart for You Lord
I choose to be holy
Set apart for You My Master
Ready to do Your will
St. Therese said, “you cannot be a half saint, you must be a whole saint or none at all.” Since I first read Story of a Soul, I have prayed the same desire as this, one of the greatest saints ever – that is ‘not to be just a saint but to be a great Saint.’
Some have told me this is presumptuous, but I know fully it can be. These three greats of history have taught me how. St. Faustina has taught, trust – simply trust in Jesus and resting in Divine Mercy. St. Thérèse says it is only possible through God – trust total and dependence. And, the Blessed Mother shows us and teaches us how to be like her, the greatest of saints – Fiat and “Do what He tells you”.
So, we go back to the song and sing in full dependence and trust in God – “Purify my heart.” Start praying today to be a saint – turn your life over to God and know He will make this happen.
“God does not give us a desire that He will not fulfill” — St. Therese of Lisieux
Wow! Great inspiration for a Monday. Thank you!
