What better way to look at a Monday and start a week than by praising our God?
One of my favorite Christmas songs and shows going way back in memory. It means so much to me because I can remember watching this show with my family and hearing my dad sing along. Later, this emotion was drawn deeper by this experience.
I knelt before God many years ago, twenty years in these upcoming months. I knelt before Him, broken with nothing but empty hands to present to Jesus as I realized His Kingship in my life. I came to Jesus with nothing to give but my heart. He took it that night. He took my empty hands in His and I could feel the warmth of His love and the joy of His embrace wrap around me.
We are often prideful, thinking we have something to bring to God in offering. Some great accomplishment or deed, some wonderful words, a fancy prayer. But, we are like paupers come before the greatest and mightiest of Kings. No amount of riches earned matter or amount to anything in this moment.
We come empty handed before this great Majesty. What do we have that matters to Jesus Christ? Watch this clip and resize what God desires of our lives. He is made most happy when we come before Him to give Him our very best – our yes in the moment and our hearts.
In this scene, we see the poor boy summoned by the Magi to the Nativity of Jesus. Without a gift for the Infant Christ, the little drummer boy played his drum with Jesus’ mother, Mary’s favor; saying, “I played my best for him” and “He smiled at me.”
Our finest gifts we bring
To lay before the king. So to honor Him
When we comeLittle baby
I am a poor boy too
I have no gift to bring
That’s fit to give our King
Shall I play for you
On my drum, Mary nodded
The ox and lamb kept time
I played my drum for Him
I played my best for Him
“I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!” Psalm 34:2-4
