“Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” Ephesians 5:18-30
What better way to look at a Monday and start a week than by praising our God?
“I Can Only Imagine” is considered by many as one of the greatest hymns of the modern era. It is a simple song that took the writer, Bart Miller of MercyMe, just ten minutes to write this song. Though as he says, he’s been writing this song his whole life.
We can all probably listen to the easy lyrics and smooth music and imagine. As Catholics, we have the privilege of being able to stand (or kneel) before Jesus every time we go to Mass or Adoration. But, even that is just a shadowing touch upon what the fullness of God’s Divine Presence will be like. I’ve had visions of this moment with me, like the Prodigal Son falling to my knees as I come before Jesus. Only to have Jesus grab me as I begin to drop and draw me into a long warm and loving embrace. In all the visions I have had of this moment, I cried.
I can only imagine, when that day comes
And I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine, when all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
I can only imagine, hum, I can only imagine
To be surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
To my knees Will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
“I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!” Psalm 34:2-4
This song was suggested by my young grandson to be the music background of the video tribute to my husband at his funeral fifteen years ago. It is beautiful and fills my heart with yearning. It always brings me to tears.
We will say a Chaplet for your husband and pray for the joy that we can only imagine
