Praise Monday – Holy Darkness

Spread the love

Holy darkness – I found this song skimming a missal prior to Mass recently. It really struck me to share in these Lenten days.

I ponder that Jesus said “I am the Light” – John 8:12 – and it is so often in the darkest hour that the soul finds Him. I guess when one thinks of it ‘scientifically’ it only makes sense. If the sun is blazing brightly in the sky, how can one recognize a light to follow? It is within the darkness that God stands out most brightly.

I know in my journey through darkness and the ‘dark night’ that it was within the darkest hour that Jesus finally stood bright enough to catch my attention. It isn’t that He wasn’t there calling when things were good – He was. It just took the darkness for me to see Him. Like a lighthouse standing in the stormy night, visible most when needed most by the wary sailor. Jesus allows a stormy, dark night that the soul may see Him and come safely to shore.
