Don’t look at your Bible. Let’s see how well you know the Beatitudes from Matthew’s Gospel.
What belongs to the ‘poor in spirit’?
Who will be comforted?
What will the inheritance of the ‘meek’?
Who will be satisfied?
(Easy one) What do the merciful receive?
Who will the ‘pure of heart’ see?
What will the ‘peacemakers’ be called?
To whom is the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’?
Why will those who are reviled and persecuted and have false words uttered against them?
The scene below from ‘The Chosen’ always hits me. Now, read Mathew’s Gospel (5:2-12), but do it imaging Jesus speaking directly to you, looking you in the eye as He goes through this teaching. Which line applies most to you? Which is one you need to improve upon? Which would make you cry if Jesus said it to you?
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:3-12
I’m so embarrassed. I guessed only 1 correctly. And here I thought I knew the bible pretty good. It look’s like I have to study a little harder and pay more attention. Sending prayers to all in need. 🙏
