“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” Acts 2:1-4
There are people who are filled with the Spirit: peaceful in time of trial, filled with wisdom, overflowing with the love. They are able to speak and proclaim the kingdom of God without fear and speak as if they were trained evangelists. How are they able to do this?
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth” Acts 1:8.
This power will instill a fervor in us to advance spiritually and nurture and grow the seedling of faith. The Spirit will be the nutrients and fertilizer, He will be the endless, Living Water that makes the tree powerful and strong. He strengthens and enlivens the soul that it will not, cannot be be destroyed.
Look to the heavens and ask Jesus to send His Holy Spirit to you in a way and depth that matches that of the apostles on that first Pentecost Sunday in the upper room. He will come and set your heart ablaze.
Lord, we pray for an infusion of Your Spirit into our weak souls so we may be filled with strength and power to proclaim the Good News.
