Peace following God

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”

Jesus cast out His net to call His disciples and make them apostles. He has never stopped fishing. Jesus says these same words to each of us that He said to Peter 2,000 years ago, “come and follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.”

What will we answer when He calls? Will we be like Peter and drop everything to follow or like the rich young man who was called and looked back to all he would lose if he followed? Peter is seen as a great Apostle, the first pope, while the rich young man is possibly the greatest disciple who never was. The difference is their response.

Jesus looks at you now and say, “Fish with Me.” It isn’t a question of what you want to do but is a statement of what Jesus wants of you. Like the rich young man, this request will have a cost. What are the ‘riches’ in your life that you must walk away from to answer yes? Old buddy friends, job, home – maybe even family.

“And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more,
and will inherit eternal life.” Matthew 19:29

The rich young man couldn’t walk away from the thing he thought were important. Will you? Does the cost feel too high? Trust me – no, trust Jesus, the cost is nothing compared to the reward.

Jesus makes a request, the answer is simple but not easy. Yes or No?
