“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” Psalm 37:7
Patience is a virtue and a gift from God.
“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” Romans 8:25
Patience is a key part of learning to trust and depend upon God. Patience is a fulcrum point in surrender. How can one truly say they’ve surrendered to God’s Divine Will if the soul is rushing headlong into the future: always pressing forward with what they know is best for their life or the circumstances?
“Be still and KNOW that I AM God” psalm 46:10.
As Romans 5:4 says, when we persevere in patience, we learn to endure what may come upon us. We grow in endurance and strength of faith. And, we come to surrender to He Who IS God. As we tend this vineyard of patiently waiting for the Lord, we must stop pressing our own plans and desires, no matter how good or easy they may seem. With patience we begin to wait for the Lord to make His Will and plan known in our life and circumstances. As through this all, we begin to believe that God truly is God and really, honestly does know the best ways we should journey upon our Road of Faith.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness” Galatians 5:22
It is then that the harvest of this tremendous Gift of the Holy Spirit becomes a full, ripe orchard of fruit of the Spirit. And, this fruit, just like an apple a day when part of our daily diet can and will keep away despair and anxiety.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
