I’ve realized that there is one word written in the Bible that changes everything around it, one word that when written empowers the sentence or statement, one word that when placed before ‘said’ makes you stop and listen to what is in quotes to follow.
That word is the name of Jesus.
The name Jesus isn’t the most written word in the New Testament let alone the whole Bible. In fact, it isn’t even mentioned in the Old Testament at all. But, I guarantee there is no other word that carries as much power.
‘God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth’ Philippians 2:9-10
This isn’t just a word though. The name of Jesus has power in it. The name of Jesus changes lives, even whole families. The name of Jesus has changes the whole world!
The name of Jesus changed me – forever. I may have an incredible long journey ahead of me to get to where God calls me but never doubt this single word has ever changed my life.
In John 10:27, Jesus said ‘My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.’ I heard this name and I stepped out of the boat, I’ve never been the same again. And when I heard His Voice….I don’t have the words to express what that did for me. I filled 230 paged in my book “I knew His Voice” and a year’s worth of reflections on theroadoffaith.net and that doesn’t even begin to express what hearing Him say MY name means to me.
I read the Bible this morning differently, I look for this one single little 5 letter word, the name of my Lord and Savior. I gaze upon the name of Jesus in awe. One thing remains constant in my life, when I was swallowed by the storm and I cried out ‘Immediately Jesus reached out his hand’ and saved me (Matthew 14:31
Today I sit here and ponder this incredible name and know that forever more I will bend my knee and bow my head, not in subjugation but in praise at the name of Jesus.
