One Thing

Spread the love

I have but one thing to do today, trust in Him…the rest will take care of itself.

Life is so complex. So many trials, struggles and things to keep one lying awake at night. Politics, the economy, worldly agendas, job, illness, and so much more can pile on to overwhelm a soul.

It is in those times (and all other times) when the soul needs to wake in the morning with these words as a prayer within, “I have but one thing to do today, trust in Him…the rest will take care of itself.”

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.” Proverbs 3:5-8

It is in times of struggle that we feel called most to need to trust in God. It is in times of sunshine and plenty in which we need to remember the Lord’s blessings. It is in all days, nights, hours and moments that we need to fall upon God.

Tell me a day or even a second when these words, this prayer doesn’t apply..“I have but one thing to do today, trust in Him…the rest will take care of itself.”

Days of struggle come to all, I’ve been there, that’s why I’m here. I’ve walked through the dark night and fire. I’ve failed to trust in God, leaning on my understanding of the situation. I’ve thought my insight to be best. I tried to force things to go my way. And, in all those moments, I struggled; floundered and fell. I was in total darkness, worrying of the day ahead.

Now, thanks to God’s wisdom and St. Faustina’s guidance, I’ve learned what trust lies in Proverbs 3:5-6. I’ve taken this prayer into my soul and strive to live it all days – “I have but one thing to do today, trust in Him…the rest will take care of itself.”

It is simple.

Trusting in God with all my heart, in sunshine or darkness, I’ve come to know the Lord’s presence and power. Good or bad as the day goes, if I do the one thing, trust in God, all will take care of itself.

How well do you live this prayer?

“I have but one thing to do today, trust in Him…the rest will take care of itself.”
