When God asks something of you, how often do you take the request and put it on a shelf with one excuse or another?
When writing “I Knew His Voice”, this was me. My initial actions were simply to register the events as they occurred and were very fresh on my mind. I worries if forgetting little details. Not realizing that over a decade later, I can still stop and recall every single moment as if it were occurring now. Next, after my wife and I discussed the events, I wanted to dive more into the recollections to make sure I truly understood what God was doing and had done.
Then, I started writing the story out more formally. After reading “Heaven is Real”, I thought, our story is as powerful if not more so. Simply because of the events. So, I thought “I can write a book on what occurred.” But, I didn’t want to do anything except for God’s Glory and for His Will. So, I asked, “Lord, if this is Your Will, let me know in a way o can’t misinterpret.” Instantly “I Knew His Voice” came to mind and I had no doubt this was the title God wanted tagged to His Story.
Then, came the biggest obstruction, me. I didn’t keep to mind that this is God’s desire and if so, don’t worry about the results or the “how too’s.” Just do it. I spent a solid two years making excuses and putting this plan of God’s up on the shelf.
Until, God moved things more directly. He brought new friends to our life. Steve and Debbie listening to us tell the story. Their first reaction was, “you need to publish this.” I laughed but God moved through Steve to bring a editor on board who liked the story and then within weeks it was done and published.
Look at St. Faustina, she complained to God many times about making His Divine Mercy known. She wasn’t worthy, too many obstacles and so on. God just kept affirming that it was for Him to make the goal completed but for her to do the work of writing.
Don’t wait when God puts something on your heart. He will make it clear, it isn’t your actions or story, it’s all God. There is nothing we can do to show God’s glory except to give our yes action.
God gave me the opportunity to update “I knew His Voice” and ‘close’ out the story. I fought to figure out how to do this re-write then finally stopped trying to figure it out and asked Him. The re-write took less than a week. The new version is on Amazon now. It may never be found on The NY Times Best Seller list – unless God wants that goal. But, it has already touched hearts and turned souls back to God. My wife and my desire is that it find just one more soul to touch. That through my writings of this true story, one more soul may find it’s way back to God, or to God for the first time.
