Matters of prayer

“Prayer.-A soul arms itself by prayer for all kinds of combat. In whatever state the soul may be, it ought to pray. A soul which is pure and beautiful must pray, or else it will lose its beauty; a soul which is striving after this purity must pray, or else it will never attain it; a soul which is newly converted must pray, or else it will fall again; a sinful soul, plunged in sins, must pray so that it might rise again. There is no soul which is not bound to pray, for every single grace comes to the soul through prayer.”  Divine Mercy in my soul #146

Ask for a lot – trust Him with everything.

As a fire cannot exist without air, a soul’s spiritual life dies without prayer.

In fact, RC Sproul says, “Prayer is to the Christian what breath is to life, yet no duty of the Christian is so neglected.”

Without prayer how can the soul become beautiful?  Without prayer the soul easily falls for sin. Without prayer, the soul can not find hope.  Prayer guides a soul to holiness.

Prayer is the key to all things!

Yet, one of the most important thing a soul can do, that is one of the easiest things to accomplish, is neglected because it is too hard or takes too much time.

Some points on this thought.

First, turn to prayer first.  Why does the person wait until all else fails before turning to God?

Next, why is it people would reply “I’ll pray for you… it’s the least I can do”. Least?!?!?  Prayer the the most powerful thing you can do for someone – only after prayer should you act.  Imagine assistance given in time of need that leads off with prayer.

Lastly, “oh I didn’t have time”, “I forgot because I was so busy”.  Hmm – “pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:16. Nowhere in the Bible is there an asterisk after that verse that says, “*unless you’re really busy.”

Not only is it possible to pray without ceasing, but it’s possible to do so without making any significant changes to your schedule or time commitments. It’s all about shifting your thought process and turning everyday moments into prayer.  Shifting your habits to saying a quick prayer as soon as you can in a situation helps to get used to praying first. Once the soul becomes ‘used’ to praying often, it can then put prayer first and throughout an event. Then, the soul can reach a point that every action it takes becomes a prayer to God – Opis Dei!

Oh, one more tip to make time for prayer…click ‘off’ on the remote.  Stop channeling shows and start ‘tuning’ God in – prayer matters!
