Mary, be my mother

Spread the love

When you look to Mary today, think of her as your mother. From the cross, our Lord asked His Blessed Mother to take us as her children. He then asks us to look to Mary as our mother. See John 19:25-26.

When baptized into the church we are brought into the family of God. Christ becomes our brother and when with our Marian consecration, Mary becomes our mother. Think of that. Mary, the daughter of the Father, Mother of the Son and Spouse of the Holy Spirit is our mother. She brings us along with her to this incredible family that is the Trinity.

You are a child of God, what can be higher then that?

Looking at the request that Jesus made from the cross, this was a request so important to Him that He gave it with the last of His final breathes before His death.

This is in effect what I did when I made my consecration those years ago. After completing the consecration and prayers, we had a ceremony officiated by a very beautiful, holy and Marian priest. My brother, Philip, arranged everything with the Mass and consecration.

We arrived at the church to see his son holding the door to greet people as they entered. As we entered the chapel, eyes were drawn to the beautiful statue of our Lady of Fatima standing next to the altar. The Mass was beautiful as all Masses are. The homily focused on our consecration and the blessings of having a mother like Mary. Jesus was very evident in His presence that night, not only in the Eucharist but in the air surrounding us. One could almost sense His joy and pride. Joy that we were giving our hearts to Mary so she could guide us to His Sacred Heart and protect us from all barbs of the enemy. Pride in His mother and what she was accomplishing that evening for His Kingdom.

As Mass concluded, we were asked to come forward to say our consecration prayer before the altar and our Lady. Once completed, we offered a rose to adorn our mother at the statue and to sign our pledge of consecration as momento.

As I knelt before my queen and mother, I thought of the great blessing Jesus was giving me through this action. As I asked her to adopt me and be my mother, I knew things would be very different forever more.

So, I ask that you consider writing up a set of adoption papers given to Mary. They don’t have to be very intricate or detailed. Just write that you wish Mary to be your mother, to protect and guide you as a mother. Ask her to always keep your heart safe and to present you as her son/daughter to her Divine Son, Jesus Christ. To bring you to her Father as her child and to ask her spouse, the Holy Spirit, to be with us always. Then, sign and date it. Offer this as a mini consecration that you can look at each day as you think of mama Mary.

“…as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her, that He might sanctity her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish” Ephesians 5:25-27
