“For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation.” John 16:7-8
He will convict the world.
Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world, nor is the Spirit condemning us when He comes. But, the Spirit comes to show us the truth and the Light. To open our eyes to see the road of faith that leads to Heaven.
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned.” John 3:17-18
When I examine my life, I see my sin. I am of the worst. I look up and see that it is because of me that Jesus is on Calvary. The enemy says to me, “yes, yes, look what you have done. Be ashamed. Mercy can never be given to you for this. (he points to the cross).” But, the Spirit speaks of my sin, yes, my sin led Jesus to the cross. But, it is from the cross that Jesus looks at me and says, “My Mercy is for you. I am here not because of you but FOR you.”
Every little black spot upon my soul carries a lash upon Jesus. The Spirit opens the eyes of my heart to see my wretchedness and sin. He convicts me, not in condemnation but to open my eyes. And, when I look to my Judges eyes, I see my Savior.
Jesus came, knowing all my sins, big and small, committed and omitted, repeated or not. He knew before there was even time what I would do. He didn’t come anyway, He came because. Jesus knew I would need a Savior. He came to seek in the darkest places to find me. And, when He did, He didn’t condemn me, He gave His Divine Mercy. He gave His Holy Spirit that I would see my sin and know I needed Divine Mercy.
Look upon the crucifix. Meditate upon the Passion of Jesus. Look at what sin did, at what your sin did to Him. Don’t stop there – never stop there. That is where the enemy ends his story of lies. But, this is where the Savior starts your story. Let the story of your soul begin as you raise your eyes from Satan’s lies looking for the Just Judge. Raise your eyes and find your Savior looking at you. Not in anger or judgement or condemnation. No, see this Merciful Savior gazing upon you in absolute love and mercy.
