St. Paul writes, “all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” Romans 8:14
Do you believe that God’s Spirit only guides a person now and then?
No, of course not. It is the Spirit’s life in us that characterizes the Christian’s life. St. Paul continues to make it clear that this guidance of the Holy Spirit does not take away our freedom. “You do not receive the spirit of slavery” Romans 8:15
Every moment comes with its own duty, it’s own task – an invitation from God to do something definite. There is not one moment that we can say, “this is an instant God has forgotten.”
There are three types of duties, what we must do because God and His Church commands, what God’s Providence allows and we must accept and every thing the Holy Spirit inspires us to do. This last one should fill our life.
God does will something for every moment. You don’t need to look to the heavens for an answer.
““For this commandment which I command you this day is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.” Deuteronomy 30:11-14
As Catholics, we know what God wills. He gives us a great privilege to know His Will. “Happy are we oh Israel, for we 4:4. know what is pleasing to God” Baruch God always wants nothing but the best for us.
The Holy Spirit is a fire within us. Recognize this fire within and listen for God’s voice. He will always guide you to what is His Divine Will. You just need to listen for His voice and you will begin to see His law and Divine Will written upon your heart.
