“Jesus I trust in You”
These are the words Jesus told St. Faustina to place upon the image of Divine Mercy as His signature.
The essential part of embracing the Divine Mercy message and devotions is a desire to live a spirituality of trust. In today’s world there is nothing a Catholic needs more urgently in their life than to trust in Jesus.
So many today, Catholic and non-believer alike lack a trust in Jesus. Look around and maybe in the mirror – how many times do you hear of ‘Catholics’ who support abortion or people terrified of the times, whether Covid, disaster or war. How often do we see people who are more comfortable in a state of mortal sin than they are in their own clothes.
This is why I believe Jesus wanted the Image signed with “Jesus, I trust in You” and not something else like “I praise You” or “I worship You” or even just His Holy Name. Jesus wants all of His people to simply trust Him. Without trust, how can we live a life truly devoted to Jesus. Trust in Jesus carries our love, adoration and praise to higher heights.
Trust means that you have confidence in Jesus. The word confidence means “with faith.” Therefore, trusting in Jesus means you have faith in Him. This means when things aren’t going well, we still have total confidence and trust in God’s Divine Will and plan.
We need this dimension of faith more than ever in these times.
God will work to teach you that trust but we have to be open to the desire. When we were in Poland last year, one of my biggest drives was to go to these magnificent shrines of our Lady, St. Faustina and of course, Divine Mercy to ask miracle healing upon my daughter. My prayers grew as friends back home messages prayer requests to me.
At every site, I prayed for St. Faustina and the Blessed Mother to intervene. The culmination of this pilgrimage for me was to be at the church in which St. Faustina prayed in her life and rests now. The church is beautiful as you can see on the picture. We were a bit rushed because Mass was beginning in a few minutes. So, we were asked to kneel quickly before St. Faustina’s coffin and a first class relic then move aside. I knelt and touched my crucifix to her relic and slid to the side to pray.
I asked St. Faustina to intercede for my daughter and bring miraculous healing upon her through the power of God. I knew in my soul this could occur if God’s Will. And, suddenly I heard the voice of God speak to me, “do you trust Me?” Surprised, I quickly looked up and my eyes fell upon the words, “Jezu Ufam Tobie” – Jesus, I trust in You. I knew this was my answer, both to Jesus and from Him. In all my prayers, those ten days were truly a pilgrimage of trust for me. I was laying all me worried of the past years upon Him, not for a miracle but because I trust Him.
I answered Jesus’ question, “do you trust Me?” simply with this phrase on His Divine Mercy image. In turn, He was also answering my prayers. He silently told me in these words, “if you trust in Me, then don’t worry.”
That is the point of His signature in these words on this image. He desires us to totally and completely Trust in Him and then, let go of our fears and worries. If we can trust in Jesus, what do we have to worry about? I walked away from that church, returning home forever changed.
In these words, Romans 8:35-39 are realized.
“Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Oh, as PS – our daughter saw a lupus flare up just go away within weeks of our return. Painful symptoms that had been with her for two years and growing worse just vanished. Say what you like, I know my Patroness and Mother both interceded and God answered.
