In God We Trust

Spread the love

Four simple words we see every day.

In God we trust! In Him we must believe Because He is the only way.
His Son we must receive – Tomorrow’s too late, accept Him today!

Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: ‘Jesus I trust in You’. I desire that this image be venerated first in your chapel and then throughout the world”. Divine Mercy in my soul # 47

One of the more iconic and well known images of Jesus in the 20th and 21st centuries is the image of Divine Mercy, the ‘Merciful Jesus.’ We could spend a lifetime mediating upon this image, and it is my prayer that each of us do just that.

But, today, I am focusing on the signature Jesus had St. Faustina add to the bottom of the image. “Jesus, I trust in You.” Simple words we see every day. Everything Jesus spoke and did, every word and story told throughout the whole of the Bible and all salvation history boils down to these very simple words, “in God we trust.”

Life and living isn’t very complicated. Put your trust in God and all the fog clears from the mind, all the mountains and valleys become level and all the paths straight. There is only one way which is the goal of every soul, Christian or atheist alike. Jesus.

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”” John 14:6-7

It’s so simple, but it isn’t easy.

The world, guided by its ruler, complicate and confuse everything. The devil has it ingrained so much into society now that we are taught from our earliest days to make a name for ourselves, do it our way, “he who dies with the most toys, wins.”

The theme song played on a repeating track in Hell is “I did it my way.” we are taught to be self-sufficient and that the only person we can depend upon is ourself. So, we step on toes to climb the ladder, we push forward through difficulties alone, even when there’s help. We find ourselves working to overcome before asking for help – because, asking for help is a sign of weakness.

This is all a lie.

So, we find ourselves resorting to prayer as a last ditch effort. And, saying, “I’ll pray for you, it’s the least I can do.” We find that we are even willing to fight temptation and fall into sin, rather than turn to God first. Imagine the different story had Adam looked for God when Eve tempted him with the apple.

“The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is — trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 1578

It all starts and ends with trust. Learning to live simple words, “Jesus, I trust in You”, “In God We Trust.” God gives us the tools as both reminder and armor. The image of Divine Mercy, Scripture, the Rosary and brothers and sisters in Christ. Holy things to guide and teach us – and lift us when we fall.

He also allows difficulties and struggles a s even sin to bring us to a point of total trust. Yes, even sin has use for God. I’ve learned so much about trusting God through my sin and failures. What could I have learned from sinful times? God has always been there guiding and carrying me, even when I didn’t care to look for Him. And, no matter how dark the sin or long the periods of separation, God has always been there to forgive me as soon as I asked. He proves the reasons for trusting in Him more times than I can count. The more I recognize these points, the deeper my trust grows in God.

“Do what You will with me. O Jesus; I will adore You in everything. May Your will be done in me, O my Lord and my God, and I will praise Your infinite mercy.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 78

I began this post with the words, “His Son we must receive – Tomorrow’s too late, accept Him today!” I trust that everyone reading The Road of Faith believes in God and has accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. I ask you to look in the mirror and ask yourself, “is there anything from which I am holding back my total trust in Jesus?” Then, begin to surrender those to Go’s by repeating these simple words as a prayer mantra, “In God I trust! Jesus, I trust in You.”
