“O Most High, when I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I am not afraid;
what can flesh do to me?” Psalm 56:2-4
When days are dark and very harsh, do you fall into God’s hands? Do you, can you, trust God with all you heart and mind?
When things in life seem to be going bad, that is the time to recall Psalm 56 to mind and focus upon signature Jesus had written on the Divine Mercy image – “Jesus, I trust in You.”
It can be easy to become despondent and blame God in dark days when the soul feels under attack. It is even more risky in those days to hide from God. You may ask, “who would ever hide from God?” But, it is simpler to fall into this trap than you may think.
When the world comes against you, it isn’t hard to see how a soul can ‘hide’ from God. A first reaction of the soul can be, “I got this” or to feel the high pressure fall upon the soul and drive it quickly into worry (and fear). It can sometimes be even more difficult if those days and attacks last for a long period. But, whether a quick strike or prolonged attack, the enemy works in these times to drive any wedge between the soul and God. As insane as it may seem, this is simpler on a forming soul than one may believe.
Even feeling as if starting in a position of strength, maybe especially then, the enemy can overwhelm with despair enough to draw the souls from turning to God. Trust me! I know firsthand how easy it is to fall even from a place of prayerfulness. That night in the ICU, my faith and trust in God collapsed. The devil had been working on me for months, twisting the words of my prayers so when faith and trust were needed most, I had little.
It is in the moments of despair and despondency, times when the news is bad and days ahead look dark that we need trust most. It is before those days the soul is trained for those times. Train yourself and let God teach you by focusing on the words at the bottom of the Divine Mercy image, “Jesus, I trust in You”. Repeat them over and over. Memorize Psalm 56:2-4, carry it always in your arsenal as reminder to your mind and heart of where to trust when most afraid.
