In times of great crisis, it’s natural and normal for people to ponder and pose any number of questions. Lately, I’ve been asked how an all-powerful God would allow the coronavirus to wreak such havoc clear across the world. Many people want to know why God won’t stop it. Where is He in the middle of this ‘crisis’?
Matthew West’s song “Do something” comes to mind: “I woke up this morning, Saw a world full of trouble now , Thought, how’d we ever get so far down, How’s it ever gonna turn around , So I turned my eyes to Heaven I thought, “God, why don’t You do something?”…He said, “I did, I created you”
Look through history, you’ll soon discover that as dire and as difficult as things may seem today, the world has faced much worse in the past.
After the Towers fell on 9/11, the people looked to God, gathered and overfilled the churches. I’ve seen pictures of St Mercy of Mercy in Pittsburgh with hundreds standing in the streets during Mass and prayer.
One of the deadliest plagues occurred between 249 and 262 AD, when up to 5,000 people in Rome died – per day. Christians gathered together and remained to serve those who were suffering while many non-Christians concentrated on saving only themselves, The church boomed in growth.
As a Catholic, in faith, I have no doubt God is in the middle of everything – the good and the bad – and yes, even COVID-19. As sovereign over all things, He remains in full and complete control.
No evil comes from God – but nor can any evil happen without His permission. Romans 8:28/Job 1:12
Despite all the strife and suffering, God is there – because He is everywhere.
And, He is here now. “Do not be afraid, I AM with you”. Divine Mercy in my soul # 129
God is working in every hospital, strengthening doctors, nurses and medical personnel as they treat the sick and comfort the dying. He is filling the hearts of His disciples, you and me, to show His love to the world – “to invest His talents”. He is telling me to share His words with all of you, “I created you. You to be My heart and love and light in the darkest hour of fear to those who don’t trust Me. I desire them to know Me. My Sacred Heart burns for their hearts. I give you My power, the more you give My love away, the more you will give back to me and the more you will receive. Give it all, my children.”
“Have great confidence, God is always our Father, even when He sends us trials” Divine Mercy in my soul # 24
