“Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher,[a] let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.” Mark 10:51-53
We witnessed the Lord’s ascension last week, now Pentecost is just days away. As the disciples, the women and Mother Mary did 2,000 years ago, we sit in prayerful silence waiting for His promised Adcocate. We join them in the time of original Novena, praying for the Holy Spirit to come. Mary knew Who was coming on Pentecost, her Divine Spouse, but the others weren’t exactly sure of Jesus’ meaning that an Advocate would come, “whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.” John 15:26
I’m sure they had no idea of what they’d be doing those first days after the Spirit came – the first chapters of Acts is alive with the actions of the Holy Spirit through those men. All the Gifts were fully on display within minutes of His arrival; tongues, miracles, healing, prophecy, wisdom and knowledge – the Power of God fully on display.
I’ve not had that Pentecost experience but I’ve been witness to incredible things that remind me of what it must have been for the witnesses of what the apostles were doing. To witness these incredible, and to see these miraculous gifts in action I can tell you they do serve the purpose of drawing the Church out, getting her people to raise their eyes to God. Making belief stronger and faith more clear, these gifts serve to glorify God. I am sure that everyone I know who has strong outpouring of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit would tell you that these have nothing to do with themselves and everything to do with God.
The display of our Gifts are not for our edification and pride, when the Holy Spirit manifests Himself through us with His Powerful Gifts, we are simply a vessel to the greater glory of God the Father. We are imbued you open hearts to see Him alone and excite the Church and people that all hearts may turn to the Father.
We need Pentecost! The Lord Jesus was clear of this urgent need, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you….I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine” John 16:7,12-15
Come Holy Spirit, come! We need THIS Pentecost! Come Holy Spirit! Come like that first Pentecost and set our hearts on heart, set the world ablaze. Come Spirit of Jesus, come Spirit of the Father – let Your Fire fall!!! We cry out to You, “Master, I want to see”. Let Your Fire fall!
