“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6
Do you hunger for righteousness? In this series I am asking you to think of this ‘righteousness’ as the Divine Will of God the Father.
The desire to seek God’s Will makes the soul insatiably hungry. The more the soul ‘feeds upon’ the Will of God, the more one desires and seeks to be fed by God’s Will.
When we stand near to God, we see how much we are like a man walking through the blazing heat and scorching sun of the desert. Parched to the point of dehydration and near death, we seek just a glass of water to moisten our lips. God is that refreshing water. If you’ve ever been in this situation, you know one glass of water isn’t enough. That glass is great but it gives a desire for another and another.
This is our soul walking through this parched world. We seek and thirst for peace in our heart. Many try to fill this desire with worldly things, we have the glass of fresh water within easy reach but prefer to drink salt water. it may taste good at the moment and feel it refreshes the body, but ultimately it leads to our death.
“You are my God, and I will confess, praise, and give thanks to You; You are my God, I will extol You.” Psalm 118:28
Do you seek to do God’s Will? Once you begin desiring the righteousness that is God’s Will, you will find yourself craving more.
I don’t want to put words in Jesus’ mouth or assume to change His Word, so this is just an exercise of thought of soul. Twist the wording of this beatitude slightly, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for God, for they will be satisfied.”
“My food is to do the Will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work.” John 4:34; 6:38
