Humbly Exalted

“All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12

Let him who humbled himself be exalted – a motto upon which to set the foundation of one’s life.

One of my most treasured s favored Bible verses is from Philippians 2, “Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name.” These verses in Philippians give us a full and foolproof way of life. Total humility before the world and God to be exalted to the highest heights by God.

This is the reason you will always find me bowing or kneeling at the Name of Jesus. When people use His Name in vain, I bow my head to His glory. When in Mass or Divine Liturgy, we pray the Name of Jesus, I bow my head or kneel. Always.

It is through this humble act of a simple head bow or bending of knee that I come to see most clearly Christ’s desire in my life. He came to exalt us before the Father so that we may be deified through Him. But, to do this, we must be humbled as He is. Jesus stepped down from the Throne of Glory to become nothing of note so that dying a criminal’s death He may be exalted so that we may have an example of life. Pray day 6 of the Novena of Divine Mercy to see how important humble souls are to Jesus.

Next time you say or hear the Name of Jesus, bow your head or take a knee and reflect upon this position of humility as you exalt the Name above all names.

“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11
