Ever wonder how much money is too much? Think that’s a loaded question? “Of course there’s never too much money”
I would contend otherwise. Too much of anything; money, cars, items, whatever can be bad. But, what is that amount? I’d say whatever amount replaces God and your trust in Him – there you go.
““No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24
Money is not evil; it is the love of money that leads a man’s heart astray.
One man may have a million dollars and be strong in his conviction to God. Serving God through the use of this gifts in the Kingdom. Another though, with just a $100 would turn away and forget there is a God. It isn’t the amount. It isn’t even about the big house, pretty car or all the items, it is about recognizing all comes from God.
“where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:21
God taught me the danger of money even against the best intentions. Several years ago, I would pray to win the Powerball. Of course, I promised God the winnings would be used for His Kingdom. I would not be greedy, I assured Him. I never received a message with the winning numbers but, I did get a far greater gift. God showed me that while my heart and intentions would start pure, it wouldn’t take long before “I became lazy” and God would diminish. It would start small and grow over time until I forgot about Him all together.
I thank God for helping me see the only treatise I desire is God. This is the greatest treasure by far. More valuable than all the combined wealth of the world and more desired by all men than any sum of money.
St. Augustine said, “We were made for You, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”
““Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Matthew 13:45-46
God is the greatest treasure, more so than all the rubies, diamonds, pearls and gold that has ever or can ever exist. This treasure is what we need to hold dearest to our heart. This treasure, we need to share wantonly with all the world.
Don’t let any treasure of this world and present life ever get a hold of your heart. Value God’s love above all things and trust Him with everything. Praise and thank Him for all things – great and small. Then, share this wealth with everyone you meet.
This was a good one. Thanks Ed. God bless.
