“For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” Mark 8:36
All the diamonds and rubies, gold and silver in the world? Pallets of $1,000 bills? A line up of Corvettes, Porsches and Ferraris?
What would you take for your soul? How much is your soul worth?
“The devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; and he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9
The devil asks you the same question, “how much is your soul worth? I’ll give it to you.” The devil will gladly bribe you with pretty baubles and trinkets. A scam worth less than the beads that bought Manhattan.
I pray you take your queue from the Lord. “Then Jesus said to him, “Begone, Satan! for it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Matthew 4:10
Is it worth a few years of contrived happiness and an eternity in Hell?
When we chase after earthly blessings as the primary motive of our lives and apart from the will of God, we forfeit the being of our souls. As a result, our souls start lacking the love, compassion, peace, gentleness, patience and self-control that comes only when we abide in Christ. We start living our lives as if our money and fame will last forever.
What is your soul worth?
The life of His very own Son is the value the Father put on your soul.
The truth is nothing of earthly value can even compare to the blessing of eternity when we make Christ our prize.
When God is our reward, He adds everything we need to it. When Jesus is all we want and desire, we never go hungry, never lack money, never lose influence and never leave the path of success. Proverbs 10:22 says, “The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.”
God wants us to gain the world, but never at the expense of losing our relationship with God. We are called to seek God first in all that we do and allow Him to add the world unto our plates.
Look at the crucifix and again, ask yourself, “what is your soul worth?”
