“Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22
Seventy-seven or seven times seventy times doesn’t just mean 77 or even 490 times and we’re good to move on with our righteous anger. Well, then, what do you mean by this math, Lord?
Jesus replies, “ I want you to forgive your brother as many times as I have forgiven you.” 😮 That’s a lot!
God’s Divine Mercy is both infinite and fathomless. He doesn’t limit Mercy – period. No just in number of times but also in the depth to which His mercy will go, the only limit upon God’s Mercy is the one we place upon it.
““Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” Mark 3:28-29
Jesus looked from Calvary into your eyes. He saw and sees every thing you do, did and will do. Then, He stretched out His Holy Hands to the nails. And, with nothing but love and mercy, He says to you, ‘This is for you, accept My Mercy.” Yes, even the that deadly sin, and even the ten thousandth time.
We are called to be Christ to the world, we are called to be His advocates of Mercy. We start by simply forgiving. And, then, again. Until Jesus stops forgiving us, a time that will never happen.
