“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17
Topic of today’s reflection is the Word of God. His Word is like a garden, God plants seeds throughout what we read, some come to fruition right off, while others are planted to come for harvest at some later moment.
Some of my favorite and most powerful verses include, Psalm 144, John 3:16, John 10:27-28, Exodus 14:14, James 5:16 and many more.
John 3:16-17 is the central meaning and hope of a Christian. To know God’s deep love and mercy in these intense words from Christ about the Father is key to all we hold dear. I had seen the signs at sporting events for years but never paid much attention. When I came back to my faith and opened the Bible, finding these words in red meant so much. This really was a light being turned on in my life.
Psalm 144 is a power psalm and prayer for me. “
Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle”. I first heard this Psalm at a men’s conference. New and coming into my faith, Jesse Romero spoke Psalm 144:1-4 and it resonated within my soul. This is proof to me of the truth of these words in my life, that hearing them just once as part of a greater talk, they have stuck with me so firmly.
John 10:27-28, “My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of My hand.” This was the ‘seed’ verse that I had read sometime in the past few years and God planted for later days in my heart. See the title of my book, “I knew His Voice” to see how much this means to me. Then, read the words in that book to get the full story. But, when Jesus appeared to my daughter hidden behind a veil of sorts, her words “I knew His Voice” were the water that made these words rush to my mind. This moment, in these words was a huge ‘harvest’ for me spiritually.
I could speak long hours and many paragraphs on my favorite words from scripture, but I’m going to let you share your favorite verse. In this post’s comments, share the verse that means so much to you. Just, “Exodus 14:14” is enough if you don’t want to share more. But, if you’d like to add a short reason why the verse means so much, please feel free.
By the way, Exodus 14:14 was given to me by God at a time of struggle. I was in a stressed time and When I read these words, I knew they were from God, though written long ago, they were specifically for me for that moment. Even more so than Psalm 86:10.
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still.”
Matthew 11: 28-30 (all time favorite); Psalm 139; Be Still and know that I am God….
Philippians 2: 5-11
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Gal 3:28)
