I have heard the voice of Jesus. Read my book, “I Knew His Voice” for details of some of these instances. I’ve been asked what His voice sounds like.
I can’t describe it though I can still hear it. All I can say in answer is, once you’ve heard His call, heard the voice of God call to you, you will know. You will have no doubt what you’ve heard. You will never forget the sound or the words spoken to you.
According to many saints and scholars, the way to discern the Spirit (and, voice of God) vs. misleading evil is the fruits but also that the voice of God sustains in our heart. If we hear or receive guidance from God, it will remain unchanged in our soul and mind. When asked by people how I remembered so many details of the history when I was writing “I knew His voice” all I can say is it is God’s story so He reminds and keeps it fresh in the mind. A decade and a half later, I can still see the events like yesterday. Mostly, each time Jesus it the Father spoke to me, the words, tone and warmth settle upon me an wrap around me.
When I first heard the voice of God, I was kneeling before the Tabernacle in adoration. Alone in the retreat chapel I cried out to God in despair. My daughter was just diagnosed with Lupus, I was terrified and overwhelmed. I was turning all my focus upon myself. My foundational sim of pride was trying to take hold. “How could You do this to me?” “My daughter was going to give her life to You and this…” In the silence of the room, a voice spoke with confident warmth, “trust Me, I will take care of My daughter.” Peace walked through me as I looked around for who in the room said this. It was just me and Jesus in the Tabernacle. I knew that instant I had heard the Father speaking to me. This repeated many times over the next months and years related in the book as well as many other times kept personal or shared on the Road of Faith.
“Why are you afraid? Do you not have faith?” Mark 4:40
When you feel most overwhelmed and darkness surrounds you, threatening to overcome you, cry out to God but listen. Listen closely to the voice of God. He may speak clearly and loudly or within the confines of your heart or through another’s words or actions or simply in the silence. As He has done with me, He will always do. You have to be open to listening and hearing His voice. If you think, “God will never speak to me” will simply make you shit His voice out. It won’t change that He Will and is speaking to you…probably right now.
We have to open our soul, the ears of our heart, not just to the possibility of God speaking but to the certainty of it. Rest assured, God does speak to each of us – even in today’s world, even now. “I knew His voice” draws its title from my daughter’s response after Hid first visit but also from my story as God gave me the guidance to finish this book as MY story not the story of the ‘simple’ miracle appearances, but beyond that all. And, “I knew His voice” becomes the story of all who read it as they have related the personal stories to me and others.
As you read “I knew His voice”, rest in the peace that God loves you so much that He will ‘break the rules’ of the physical world to burst the boundaries and speak to you. Somehow even now, He may be talking…listen. As the celebration Christmas in the mangers draws close, so does His presence open you heart to hear His voice….sshhhh….on the silent night, listen for His voice. And always His Words,
