Heal our land

“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house so that my name may be there forever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-16

“…one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”

The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America calls out to God and declares that we are a nation under His Majesty and Power. “One nation under God,” that was added to the flag salute in 1954. The question is, “Are we a nation under God?” We know that’s what the founding fathers intended, and not just any God, but the God of Scripture.

Ronald Reagan said, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

This is a critical point in our nation’s history with a huge election tomorrow. The nation’s future and experiment that is the Constitution hangs in the balance. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are on the ballot.

This nation has been through great crucibles in its 244 year history. We fought a great Civil War to hold the nation as a single union and set men free to pursue the dream of America. And, despite the scorn thrown at our nation’s history by many, this nation is singularly responsible for the freedom enjoyed by many around the world. Our men and women have died in foreign wars that others whole they never met would be able to live. Many now try to say America is bad and our history should condemn the nation. But, they forget WWI and WWII, when if not for an America united under God, we would be living in a very different world.

When, America has been on its knees before God, we have done amazing things. I truly believe that God consecrated this nation at its birth and will stand beside it and guide it, if we but turn from our wickedness and seek His face.

Now, more than any time in our lives and maybe in our great nation’s history, we need to fall to our knees before our Father in Heaven and lift our humble prayers. We need to beg God to heal our nation of its wounds and shed His Grace upon America again. No nation or government is perfect, but, when the people of a nation humbles themselves, turns to God the Father in prayer, seeks the face of God, and turns from its wicked ways, The Father in Heaven will hear their cry, forgive their sin and heal their land.

George Washington in 1787 wrote a letter to his wife after attending a Roman Catholic Mass, he finished it saying, “May the Father of all mercies scatter light and not darkness in our paths, and make us all in our several vocations useful here, and in his own due time and way everlastingly happy.
