This will be controversial for many.

Do you receive the Holy Eucharist on the tongue or in the hand? Did you know Vatican II said the way the faithful should receive the Eucharist on the hand? Wrong! That’s a myth and lie. No document in Vatican II or writing that says to receive in the hand. In fact, Vatican II says to receive on the tongue.

Redemptionis sacramentum # 90 states you have the right to receive upon the tongue kneeling. let no priest tell you otherwise.

The loss of reverence in the Eucharist is strangely times with the reception of the Eucharist on the hand. Less than 30% of Catholics believe the in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

It is actually a Church rule that no priest may refuse someone from receiving on the tongue. Our bishops have wrongfully allowed this action.

The norm of reception of the Eucharist on the tongue is Church ‘law.’

This isn’t pridefully said but to use as reference only. When I receive our Lord, in Churches across our nation, I do so kneeling and upon the tongue. I’ve been doing this for the past several years. Since I started receiving on my knees and upon my tongue, my reverence of the Eucharist has increased 1,000 fold.

Pope Benedict once said he would refuse to give a person Eucharist I’m the hands. Pope John Paul II, affirmed the reception upon the tongue as the norm. “There is an apostolic letter on the existence of a special valid permission for this [Communion in the hand]. But I tell you that I am not in favor of this practice, nor do I recommend it.

I’m told the Vatican doesn’t even allow the reception in the hand because tourist would take the Consecrated Host as a souvenir.

I am not condemning you if you receive the Lord in the hand. No. What I am saying is, what if you changed your ways to make the act of receiving the Eucharist more reverential? What if you took it a step further and bent your knee before God as He comes to rest upon your tongue?

If we truly believe this is Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, we should fall to our knees in adoration as we receive the Eucharistic Lord.

This is the most incredible privilege we are given by the Lord. There is nothing higher for a soul, in the right state, than to receive the Lord. The angels have a holy envy of man who receive the Eucharist. For while they may stand before God, they cannot receive the Eucharist.

I know several who receive in the hand who are very reverent, knowing this is the Lord. I am not condemning anyone. But, what would it do for the church, for our souls, if everyone knelt to receive the Eucharist on the tongue?

Consider raising the reverence of your reception of the Eucharist to that of the greatest event of all history. Consider the awe of receiving the Lord in the Eucharist, the king into your soul. Consider humbly kneeling before the Lord as you receive Him.
