“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.”” John 2:1-10
I can’t think of a time in the Bible in which God’s plan was changed ‘against His plan.’ God’s Will is always perfect. God’s plan is always timely. Then, this morning I read the recounting of the Wedding at Cana from John’s Gospel.
Read what occurred. You know the story. The wine ran out and the family faced being shamed. There was no hope, nothing could be done. The party just started and the wine was already gone. Up steps the Blessed Mother.
She approaches her son – remember, she knows Who Jesus is. She slips up to His side, telling Jesus simply that the wine is gone. And, Jesus’ response is also simple, “what do you want me to do? It’s not time yet.” Mary leans her head upon His arm, looks her Son in the eye, knowing fully what she is asking of Him and that the end brings pain. “and a sword will pierce your own soul too.” (Luke 2:35).
How does Jesus, God, react? Does He tell her not yet or not now again? No. God changes His plan.
This story is always pointed at as a showing of the Blessed Mother‘s intercessory power. But, look at it deeper. Yes, Mary interceded for her friends. But, this shows the power of her intercessions. Mary, Immaculate Queen Mother of the King of kings turned to God and changed His plans.
Do you not think that the first thought when trouble approaches shouldn’t be to turn to the Mother of God? Do you not believe that even when hope is gone, that the Queen Mother wouldn’t intercede and ‘change’ the mind of God?
Maybe God changed His plans for her or maybe she was just so in tune with God’s plan she knew the timing was now? I don’t know but this morning, God put this on my heart to turn to His Mother as the intercessor – the one who could change His mind.
Our Blessed Mother will move Heaven and earth to intercede for you with the singular goal of bringing you to the side of her Son. Her intercessions will change your eternity. That you may drink of the sweetest wine unimaginable.
Who but the most powerful intercessor could make God change His plans?
