“Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Eucharistic Prayer # 2
I sit here pondering my Lord and see the Holy Eucharist before me. Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity – the true Real Presence of God among us.
How can a soul ‘see’ Jesus truly and fully as He is in the Eucharist? Lord, I want to see you and know you fully in the Eucharist. Help me, Lord – “I believe, help me unbelief.” Mark 9:24
“It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63
It is the Holy Spirit Who gives us life and sight and knowledge of the Real Presence. Without the actions of the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine remain just bread and wine. Without the knowledge of the Holy Spirit, how can a soul make the leap necessary to see the Lord, hidden within that transubstantiated host and blood?
It takes the Holy Spirit, as Jesus said to those few disciples who remained to hear, “It is the spirit that gives life.”
The Spirit gave life into the womb of Mary and it is that same Holy Spirit who gives life into our soul when we consume the Eucharist. It is the Holy Spirit Who gives us sight to see Jesus upon the altar during Adoration.
“At the heart of the Eucharistic celebration are the bread and wine that, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become Christ’s Body and Blood.” Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1333
Do you believe? Truly truly believe? Pray before Mass – “Come Holy Spirit, come into my soul, mind and heart that I may see Jesus through Your fire in every aspect of this Mass. Most especially, help me to see Jesus truly in all His Glory and Power in the Eucharist I will consume today.”
