“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-30
We are commanded to go. Yet, many of us, many Catholics sit quietly on the sidelines waiting.
As a kid, I never liked playing baseball. I would have been happy just sitting at the end of the dugout. But, having to play everybody, there came a time the coach pointed at me and said ‘get out there.’ I never felt I was any good at the game, so just didn’t enjoy it.
Like most Catholics who don’t feel good enough to be in the game. Or, maybe just would rather sit at the end of the pew and say, ‘hey, I’m at the game, aren’t I?’
But, this isn’t what God desires. He wants us over the boards charging down the ice toward the goal. Jesus tapped the disciples on the shoulder at His ascension and later through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Jesus told them as He tells us now, time for sitting on the bench is over. It’s time to get in the game.
““Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:37-38
Sitting here gazing at our Crucifix, I just had the strong image of Jesus handing me a cup of water, saying “From My heart flows living water, will you satiate the thirst of those whom I thirst?”
The world is dying of a deep thirst. They search far and wide for something to satiate this thirst, never seeing or knowing to look to Jesus.
The world is thirsty! IT’S GAME TIME! Get out there and give them the Living Water that is Jesus. Fill there dehydrated souls with Jesus.
The Coach (Jesus) is looking at you, will you get off the bench and into the field?
