My wife found this icon in the gift shop located in the museum at the childhood home of Karol Wojtyła in Wadowice Poland. St. Pope John Paul II later immortalized and completed the plan of Jesus Christ to bring Divine Mercy to the world, giving us the first saint of the new millennium, my patroness saint, St. Faustina.
We love how this image shows the rare view of the moment when Jesus at the Last Supper in Mathew 26:27-28, as He held the cup in blessing. “Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
This morning while my wife and I said our prayers I sat gazing at this image. The thought and image rushed to my mind of the Divine Mercy image with the red and white rays pouring from the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In my thought and the image presented to me, I saw the Blood and Water of these Divine Mercy rays overflow like a wave from the cup which Jesus holds. The realization of the ‘living water” of which Jesus speaks is Divine Mercy which flows endlessly from His Sacred Heart. This well of mercy was opened by a spear on Calvary and flows with refreshing grace and mercy ‘gushing up to eternal life.’
Drink of this life-giving water through your trust and devotion to the Divine Mercy. The Divine Mercy which flows abundantly from the Father through Jesus to you.
““Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
