Flying through Storms

I had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit on my first flight in the Air Force and again years later on a small plane. The cockpit instruments looked crazy to me but the pilot knew every dial and screen. He knew that if it were dark or stormy and he could see past the aircraft’s nose, he could trust those instruments and get us where we needed safely.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

What about you? When life gets dark or a storm rolls in, do you have instruments in which you’re confident? Do you understand these confidently enough that you could trust yourself to use them to get through to safe harbor?

Yea! If you haven’t guessed yet, I’m talking of the Bible.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth – B.I.B.L.E. This is the one true instrument that can lead us home to Heaven. The Bible is the one ‘gauge’ that can get us through a dark hour or storm in life. It points to always to the One, True North Star, Jesus Christ.

Study intensely like a pilot would the instruments on his cockpit walls and dashboard. Know the Word of God of so well that when the storm hits, and all the beautiful scenery of life vanishes, you can confident look into the word and be guided safely.

When my daughter became sick, in a dark hour in an ER, the events pressing down upon me, God gave me His words to guide and strengthen me. In that moment, from my cockpit came the words of John 10:27-28. The darkness around me remained but suddenly I was confident in the course and fears vanished. So, how familiar are you with the instruments before you? A soul cannot fly through life without the Bible and hope to safely land in Heaven.

“ I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:12-13
