Fearless

Spread the love

I want to be fearless!

“for God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7

There are so many stories of fearless leaders throughout the Bible. David, Paul, Peter, Abraham, Elijah and Elisha. Ruth, Esther and the Blessed Mother, Mary.

I want to be fearless. But, as I sit here this morning praying for strength and courage, I feel a voice within scolding me. “You are a coward, worse then Peter the night of the arrest. Your sin has betrayed Him more than Judas did in accepting the coin.” I am overwhelmed with sorrow.

How could I be so cowardly? It’s my sin – yes, that is what keeps me from coming to the cross to stand with John, Mother and the others.

Then, I hear a tender voice speak to me, “Call on God’s Name and walk out in faith!”

Walk out in faith? Yes, the Lord conveys that only sin separates my soul from Him but that He went to the cross to destroy that sin. The fight against Satan’s lies are not of my concern. Jesus conveyed that we should turn to St. Michael for defense against the snares of the enemy, he will send legions of angels to defend us. We should climb up Calvary and stay close to our Mother. Her spirit is one of total surrender and filled with courage. She had the strength to stand beside Jesus throughout the passion and crucifixion because she stood true in faith and trust.

Trust and faith! Yes, that is how we step out of the boat and walk on water like Peter. Trust is how we stand in the fire against the fiery hate of the idolatrous world.

God did not create us to cower before the ruler of the world, God has given us a spirit of power and love and self-control.

When we step out in trust and faith, we become like David standing before Goliath. The Goliaths of this present world will come to cower before our faith when we trust in Jesus.

With this realization, I speak to the first voice who called me a coward and reply, “begone liar!” The power of the Lord descends upon me and he flees.

Do you stand in the power of the cross of Jesus, emboldened by His Divine Mercy promise and trust? Do you ask Mother Mary to hold you close and protect you from the demons? Do you turn to your guardian angel and St. Michael for defense?

You have all the power of God at your hand, call upon it. Then, walk boldly out in faith.
