Today we go back on the Road with our faith as we travel right down the road from me to St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh PA.
Saint Paul Cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. St. Paul’s parish was established in 1834. When the Pittsburgh diocese was established in 1843 St. Paul’s Church was chosen as site for the cathedral.
As most Cathedrals, St. Paul’s is breathtaking. As intended, the architecture, windows and altar really lift one’s heart to God. How can a soul not be lifted up during the Holy Mass to sense the angels and Saints celebrating the Glory of God as the Eucharist is lifted with this altar as a backdrop?
I love the side ‘altars’ with the Tabernacle and our Blessed Mother. I could spend hours kneeling in prayer before our Queen and our Lord.
We recently celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage of the son of two dear friends at the Cathedral. Seeing the newly married couple standing under this altar, surrounded by the statues of so many great Saints one could really feel the graces and blessings of God’s full Church being poured upon them.
The organ and choir loft are just as spectacular. The sites and sounds surrounding the soul in St. Paul’s Cathedral are something that I would highly recommend anyone visiting Pittsburgh make a highlight of their visit.
