We passed through Baton Rouge, LA with an overnight stay as we headed west to Houston then New Mexico. Arriving early enough to get setup, we were able to make Holy Mass on the Saturday vigil at St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Baton Rouge.
This is a beautiful, simply cathedral, much in the way of St. Joseph himself. Humbly yet beautifully adorned in the grace of God to the glory of God.
The spire reaches high into the blue Louisiana sky. ‘Standing’ upon the front of the church is a statue of St. Joseph. Entry into the church building is a double take. First view shows the altar and baptistery, making one think the church will be a modern look. But, ten steps forward opens to the wood beamed majesty of the cathedral. The Stations of the Cross are in mosaic along both sides. And, breathtaking in beauty, the stain glass windows tell the story of St Joseph. His marriage to the Blessed Mother, his deathbed with Mary and His son Jesus at his side and his glorification in Heaven for his role and job well done raising Jesus to be a great man. Each offer a small prayer reflection.
