Faith on the Road – St. Christopher Catholic Church – Kanab, Utah

God is Good! All the time!

God is so wonderful and surprising – He can never be outdone. We planned a day trip to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park near Kanab, Utah. So, the only Catholic Church near this area was St. Christopher’s. In fact, being nearly 40 miles away was the third closest Catholic Church to our location in the Utah bastion of Mormon. We figured St. Christopher checked all the boxes – a new Church each week, next nearest Catholic Church to our campground, and in the area we want to visit.

God was pleased with our choice and passion that drove us to drive so far to see Him in the Holy Mass. But, He held all the surprises close to His chest. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and welcomed. The priest’s homily was really good, the cantor sung beautifully acapella. The Eucharist..well, Jesus is off the charts when He comes to us in the Holy Eucharist. Then, after we had prayed our post-Mass prayers, we were greeted by a couple from the parish. Very warm and welcome greeting. They told us there are only 60 parishioners of this tiny Church, whose home parish is St. George, feature on ‘Faith on the Road” just weeks ago. That explains why this Mass with 100 people saw 80% raise their hands when the priest asked who was visiting. This is a mission church in the Mormon bastion of Utah. No one in this Catholic Church is native to Utah. We spoke together for a while after Mass, sharing our faith and stories.

Enjoy this simple little Church and make it a stop when you visit Zion National Park.

This is Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park which was what drew us here – beyond Jesus in the Eucharist, of course.
