Faith on the Road – Queen of Peace – Gainesville, FL

Spread the love

Queen of Peace Community is next on our travels near Gainesville, Florida. Starting with 200 souls in 1987, Queen of Peace grew dramatically into the current church in 2001. On October 7, 2001, Bishop Victor Galeone dedicated our permanent church on the feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. I love this from their website – “When people comment, “Queen of Peace is a beautiful church,” we might respond, “yes and the building is beautiful, too!””

The pastor, Father Al gave a fantastic homily focused on the Gospel story of Peter jumping into the water to get to Jesus on the beach. “When we hear God call us, we need to leap and run to Him as quickly as possible.” I talked with Father after Mass, I pray soon we can bring our mission to Queen of Peace. Beside his great humility and celebration of Mass, one thing that really struck me of Father was how he focuses so intently upon who is in front of him. There was a line of greeters after Mass, Father took his time with each person who came to him. No rush to get to the end of the line. He was intently focused upon the person with whom he was speaking (and praying with).

Get to Queen of Peace, maybe for Connie and my mission if it actually can happen.
