Faith on the Road – Chapel of the Holy Cross – Sedona, AZ

Our last stop of ‘Faith on the Road’ before leaving Arizona fittingly brings us to the one location we looked forward most to visiting. Sitting high atop the red rocks in Sedona, Arizona the Chapel of the Holy Cross is a breathtaking and inspiring place of worship.

Built to a twin pinnacled spur, about 250 feet high, jutting out a thousand foot rock wall, “solid as the rock of Peter” the building of the Chapel was completed in April, 1956. It is a place of great beauty and peace.

It took us three weeks of attempts to finally visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross as it welcomes several million Pilgrims and tourists every year. With only 55 parking spots, it wasn’t easy to find a place to settle the big blue dually. But, we made it.

Only dozens of people were around the night we were at the Chapel. Of that, only a handful spent time in the Chapel in prayer. So many people come to see this beautiful building for its architecture and surrounding red rock cliffs but miss the true beauty within. Jesus died on the cross for even those who stand before His cross wondering “Who is that?” Or thinking “What’s the big deal about that guys hanging there?” It is our duty, and should be our joy, to tell those looking at the world while missing the cross, that Jesus lives them and died for them that they may stand before Him someday in a place of beautify that makes this and all earthly wonders pale in comparison.
