I remember a day kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament. I prayed, telling Jesus, “Lord, No way am I saint material.” I felt a sense of heat wash over me. I’d like to say it was a warmth of love but, I can’t. This sensation was more a sense of anger. “Lord, look at me, what do I have to bring to You that would begin to make me worthy.” The verse from 2 Corinthians 9:12, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
I am the least likely for God to select to make a saint. Many may say otherwise and argue against that thought, but, I know who I am and what I’ve been. I am the most wretched of sinners. I’ve sinned without end and don’t live the faith God gave me. Before you jump on me for this (especially my brother Jim who always points out how this thought is wrong), know it is because of this failing and inadequacy that I know I can and will be a saint.
The Lord told St. Faustina, “the greater the misery of a soul, the greater its right to My mercy; [urge] all souls to trust in the unfathomable abyss of My mercy, because I want to save them all.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 1182
St. Theres of Liseux said, “the Lord has done great things for me, And the greatest of these is to show me my wretchedness, my brokenness.”
So, I believe in God’s love for me and from these words of our Lord, I know it isn’t because of me that I will be a saint someday. It is fully and simply upon the shoulders of Jesus. No saint who ever entered Heaven came with a pocket full of achievements. Every one is carried through the gates upon the grace and mercy of God.
“Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner” Like 18:13
Do you believe you are worthy to be a saint? Do you believe in God’s Divine Mercy? Yes, you are. If you are worried of your worthiness, say the words on the image, “Jesus, I trust in You.”
Then, go to the Blessed Mother and look to her for both hope and guidance. Say to her, “Mother, you are my merciful mother, please guide my heart to accept all the love your Divine Son poured upon me at the cross. Help me accept the Divine Will of the Father as you did throughout your life.”
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. He came that we may be saints among saints.
Ed,
Beautiful. I love the positive on being a saint!
Keeping this one for sure!
