Faith in the Road – The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception – Springfield, Illinois

Spread the love

Following our week at the Grand Design National Owner’s Rally in Elkhart, Indiana, we move westward to Chatham, Illinois for another owner’s rally. We are finding owner’s rallies as a great place to meet other RVrs and maybe learn some things and get service on the RV.

Chatham is located just minutes from Springfield, Illinois’ state capitol and home of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Always a joy to attend Mass in a Church that offers regular Sacrament of Reconciliation times (in this case, 7 days a week). Also, a surprising joy to have the Mass celebrated ‘ad orientum). The celebrant was a young priest and for Communion, two other priests (rector and parochial vicar) came out to distribute the Holy Eucharist – no Extraordinary ministers.

The cathedral cornerstone was laid on August 14, 1927, and was dedicated on October 14, 1928. The cathedral complex is built in a modified Greek Revival architectural style.

A must visit for any in the Illinois area.
