Visiting Notre Dame has been a dream for me since I was a little boy. My dad and uncles were huge Fighting Irish fans – their visit to see a game was like a holy pilgrimage. This visit to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart was beyond that for me. This was an incredible day. A must visit for all Catholics.
The Basilica serves as the University Church for the University of Notre Dame and as the mother church for the Congregation of Holy Cross in the United States. Consecrated on August 15, 1888, it was elevated to the rank of Minor Basilica on January 17, 1992.
A very active Catholic University with pews filled to overflowing and a choir filled with 60+ (music majors I suspect).

The relics of the saints are more precious than silver and gold.” – Fr. Edward Sorin
These words of Fr. Edward Sorin epitomize the reverence in which the founder of the University of Notre Dame held these holy treasures of the Church. The Reliquary Chapel of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart was consecrated along with the other chapels and Lady Chapel on August 15th, 1888
