The next visit with Faith on the Road takes us east of Bay St. Louis to New Orleans. An easy hour drive down I-10. We parked along the Mississippi River and walked to the Cathedral-Basilica. Located next to Jackson Park, the Cathedral-Basilica catches your eye with its bright white facade.
The first permanent Church was built in 1727, burned down in 1788. The new Spanish Cathedral was consecrated 1794. In 1964, Pope Paul VI raised the Cathedral to minor Basilica citing its splendor, antiquity, historical significance and pastoral zeal.
It’s beautiful! Spent a lot of time in New Orleans as my sister lived not too far away in Baton Rouge!
New Orleans is a fun place! I never saw the inside of that church though!
Try Muffaletta sandwiches….to die for! Wish we were there!
