“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4
“The most solemn moment of my life is the moment when I receive Holy Communion. I long for each Holy Communion, and for every Holy Communion I give thanks to the Most Holy Trinity.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1804
Do you rejoice in the Lord when you receive the Eucharist?
Do you come to the altar, receiving the Eucharist as just another thing? A thing, a small wafer and sip of wine? Or, do you come to the Lord at Communion, knowing it is Jesus Whom you approach? Is your soul filled with joy? Or, apathetic and just looking to get to the end of the line and back out of church?
“Jesus, delight of my soul, Bread of Angels,
My whole being is plunged in You,
And I live Your divine life as do the elect in heaven.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1393
The Eucharist is the greatest event we can participate in every day. The Mass lifts us to Heaven. Jesus comes from Heaven to us. He is the “Bread of the Angels”, descending from the angelic realms to come to us. We kneel in humility, proclaiming to Jesus that we are not worthy. Yet, He looks at us from the altar with eyes of Merciful Love, inviting us forward to not just come closer but to take Him within our body and soul. The ultimate in intimate action.
Yet, so many brush past this event, rushing to get home to the football game or shopping or whatever.
This is one of the greatest events of all history, and we are privileged to come forward to receive. Your soul flutters wthe excitement. Will you allow your intellect to suppress this joy? Or, do you let it go.
At Mass this morning, Deacon said, “a boy came forward to receive the Lord. When I lifted the Eucharist and said, “The Body of Christ”, he exclaimed, “YES! JESUS!” That is the type of reaction we should have. A reaction in which our soul exclaims, “Yes, it’s Jesus! Rejoice!”
